All the way from Småland, the collected views, amusements and inspirations of a bunch of copywriters working at IKEA Communications. Here comes the small print: "The posts here are the authors own and are not necessarily the views of IKEA." Hopefully nothing else we put on here will be as boring as that.
Here in Sweden purchasing alcohol is A THING. The socialist, Lutheran culture can still be felt in the way the government tries to curtail its population’s alcohol consumption by hindering the ability to make spontaneous alcohol purchases. On many occasions I have come across some hapless foreigner, late in the evening, asking a convenient store clerk where he might procure some strong waters– only to be told he is shit-out-of-luck. But only until the following day (excluding Sundays!) when Systembolaget, the government-run, Soviet-style alcohol dispensary, reopens. Luckily, there is one other option. If you are near the coast you can board a ferry and buy your booze on the high seas. (As a planning-challenged person this is an option I’ve exercised many times).
All this is to say, I find it rather amusing that IKEA, a Swedish company, is brewing its own beer, which can’t be sold in any of it’s Swedish stores. But don’t worry fellow Swedes, it is being sold in the UK. Just a ferry ride away…
